Our Policies
Your pet is very important to us. Barkhaven would like to assure you that every effort will be made to make your pet’s grooming experience as safe and pleasant as possible. Safety comes first for everyone, people and animals, during the grooming process.
-
Grooming can sometimes be stressful, especially for a senior pet or pet with health problems, and can expose hidden medical problems or aggravate a current one during or after the groom. Because senior pets and pets with health problems have a greater chance for injury, these pets will be groomed for cleanliness and comfort, in styles that will not add to their stress. All medical expenses for veterinary care resulting from age or health problems will be covered by the pet’s owner.
-
Although accidents are very rare, there is a risk when dealing with animals. Grooming equipment is sharp. Though we use extreme caution and care in all situations, possible problems could occur including, but not limited to, cuts, nicks, scratches, quicking of nails, etc. In most cases, this happens when an animal is wiggling or moving around.
Your pet’s safety and comfort are our number one priority. In the event an accident does occur, you will be notified of the accident. If Barkhaven feels it is serious, and the owner is not on-site, Barkhaven will seek immediate veterinary care for your pet.
By scheduling an appointment, you provide Barkhaven full authorization to seek medical treatment from an immediate veterinarian in the case of any medical emergencies while your pet is in the care of Barkhaven.
-
By scheduling an appointment, you authorize Barkhaven to take actions they deem as necessary to ensure the health, well-being, and safety of your dog(s), and to take reasonable action to resolve any medical problems that may arise while your dog(s) is in our care. You agree to assume full financial responsibility for any and all expenses incurred as a result of these actions. You understand that the Barkhaven staff will make a reasonable attempt to contact you before incurring such expenses, that we may need to incur such expenses if we can't reach you, and that an emergency situation could arise where it would not be feasible for us to contact you before the expense is incurred, including but not limited to, first aid, CPR, and/or emergency veterinary care.
If you do not wish for our staff to attempt CPR on your pet in the case of an emergency, please let us know so we can make a note on your client profile.
-
All pets are strongly recommended to be current on all vaccines but must to be up-to-date on their Rabies vaccination (as required by Mississippi law) in order to receive any services. Thank you for your understanding.
-
Barkhaven strives to be a flea-free salon. If your pet has fleas, they will be given a flea bath at your expense. If you do not wish them to receive one, you can reschedule your appointment after the problem is taken care of by you.
All ticks will be removed free of charge, and you will be notified if any are found.
-
Owners MUST inform Barkhaven if your pet has bitten, or is aggressive to people, other dogs, or specific grooming procedures. Barkhaven has the right to refuse any services at any time. In the event that your pet is too stressed or becomes dangerous to groom, Barkhaven has the right to refuse grooming services, stop grooming services, or cancel grooming services at any time before, during, or after
grooming and the client will be charged a grooming fee (for what was done up to that point.)
-
All pets must be picked up by the end of business hours unless discussed beforehand. We respect your time and assume you respect ours. We hope you understand that, like you, we have family and plans after we leave our salon.
We understand that things happen and allow a 15- minute grace period past our closing hour to pick up your pet. Past the 15-minute grace period, your dog may be boarded, at your expense, at a local boarding facility. We are not zoned for boarding and cannot keep a dog overnight.
-
Pets with matted coats require extra attention. Mats in a pet´s coat grow tight, and can ultimately damage and tear the pet´s skin, which provides a breeding ground for parasite infestations. Barkhaven will not cause serious or undue stress or discomfort to your pet by attempting to brush out coats in this condition.
Mats can be exceedingly difficult to remove and may require the pet to be shaved. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts, or abrasions due to skin becoming trapped in the mats. Heavy matting can also trap moisture, urine, and feces near the pet´s skin, allowing mold, fungus, or bacteria to grow, producing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process.
After-effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and failure of the hair to regrow. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes. Prevention is the best defense against matting. We at Barkhaven recommend scheduling regular grooming appointments every 4-8 weeks. If your pet needs to be shaved to remove matting, you will be notified beforehand.
By scheduling an appointment, you acknowledge that you agree to this procedure, and any risks associated. There will be an additional $30 minimum charge for this process, as it is very time consuming, and causes extra wear and tear on grooming equipment. All medical expenses for veterinary care resulting from matting will be covered by the pet´s owner.
-
Our daily schedule depends upon appointments being kept. Each day, we have a fixed number of appointments available. Because of this, we request a 24-hour minimum notice if you are unable to keep your appointment so that we have time to schedule someone else in the space. We understand there may be emergency situations and will work with you, but not on a continued basis.
Last minute cancellations, reschedules, and no-shows may be subject to a fee equal to 50%* of the service(s) that were scheduled, which will be charged to your card on file. After three occurrences within a six-month period, pre-payment in full will be required before another appointment is booked.
*Due to high demand for holiday appointments, last minute cancellations, reschedules, and no shows that are scheduled between November 1st and December 31st may be subject to a fee equal to 90% of the service(s) that were scheduled.

This release form authorizes Barkhaven to take photos and videos of your pet for your client file, the company's website and social media pages, and any other use we may require. All photos and videos taken are the property of Barkhaven.

Your satisfaction is important to us. If you are unhappy for any reason, we will be happy to make any adjustments possible to your pet's groom within 72 hours of pickup. After 72 hours, any adjustments will be treated as a new appointment and the client will be subject to a grooming fee of some kind.
